Dog Boarding Services
At Holiday Barn, Compawssion® is the hallmark of our services and we know that a well-trained and friendly pack is our strongest asset. But it sure helps to have two of the most well-designed dog boarding facilities in Richmond, VA! In fact, many pet care organizations have used Holiday Barn as a model and inspiration for the construction of their facilities. Listed below are brief descriptions of the accommodations available. Please be sure and stop by Holiday Barn for a tour at our Glen Allen and Midlothian locations because you’ve got to see it to believe it!.
All Holiday Barn services are designed to help you learn more about your dog. We call that Purrrsuing Learning®. When you board your dog at Holiday Barn, we will send a report card home so that you will learn about your dog’s socialization and independence skills.

Before Vacations: Immunizations and Helpful Hints
As soon you know your travel plans, call and make a reservation.
Make sure all immunizations are current and have your vet fax shot records to (804) 672-7147 for Glen Allen or (804) 794-1664 for Southside. Alternatively, you can email scanned shot records to our Glen Allen Reservation Specialist or our Southside Reservation specialist. Documentation is preferred 48 hours prior to check-in. We cannot keep your pet if we do not have proof of immunizations from your veterinarian. For dogs we require:
- Respiratory Bordetella
- Hepatitis or Adenovirus
- Both h3n2 and h3n8 flu virus vaccinations
* We respect the unique medical needs of each pet and will accept modifications to vaccination requirements if documented and signed by your veterinarian as long as they are aware of your pet’s lifestyle.
THERE IS A FIVE DAY WAITING PERIOD IF ANY OF YOUR PETS HAVE VISITED A VETERINARIAN FOR ANY REASON. PETS MUST RECEIVE VACCINATIONS AT LEAST 5 DAYS PRIOR TO ARRIVAL FOR MAXIMUM EFFECTIVENESS.
Don’t Feed Too Much
Don’t over feed your pet right before leaving for vacation. This could cause an upset tummy. We have plenty of food here!
We serve IAMS mini chunks and IAMS puppy food. If necessary, you may bring your own food. Please prepackage it in zip-top bags, one serving per bag.
We offer fleecy faux lambswool blankets which we launder every night. Special mattresses are available for senior citizens. Please do not bring bedding from home unless you are staying in the deluxe suites.
Do not get too emotional when you drop your pet off. This can cause your pet to feel unnecessarily anxious.
One of our friendly Activity Coordinators will take your dog to his or her room. This shows your dog that you trust us and will keep your dog from thinking you want him to protect his/her room.
Try to schedule a one or two night vacation for your pet’s first vacation, rather than a whole week.
We Need Your Number
Bring an emergency contact phone number.
Don’t Eat and Drink When Excited – Do not over feed or offer unlimited water to your dog for at least four hours after you return home. Your dog may be really excited to get home. This may cause him/her to eat and drink too quickly and may result in an upset stomach. Just let your dog calm down a little first!
Your dog may be a little tired upon returning home. This is normal. There is a great deal of excitement at Holiday Barn! If you have any questions about your dog’s behavior, please give us a call.
