Spring into Richmond Events with Your Dog

As winter melts away, and the flowers start to bloom, Richmond, Virginia, becomes a hub of vibrant activity, especially for our furry friends! From charitable fundraisers to outdoor adventures, there’s something for every pup and their human companions to enjoy. Holiday Barn invites you to grab your leash and let’s dive into the exciting dog-friendly events happening in and around Richmond this spring.

1. Richmond Animal League Sugar and Spice Event – February 10

Experience a night of community and compassion at the Richmond Animal League’s Sugar and Spice Event. Held February 10 at Atlas 42, this soirée combines delectable cuisine from local eateries, an open bar serving up refreshing beverages, and the opportunity to do good in your community!

At every Sugar & Spice event, you’ll find the Small Art with Big Heart auction, featuring miniature artworks generously donated by local artists and students, usually measuring around 6X6 inches. These pieces are auctioned off to support pets in need, and despite their small size, these artworks leave a significant impact for the health of local animals! With each bid, you’re not only adding a masterpiece to your collection but also contributing to the welfare of animals in need.

2. Henrico Humane Society Pet Expo – February 24

Join us at the Richmond Raceway Complex 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on February 24 for the Henrico Humane Society Pet Expo! This indoor extravaganza offers a plethora of pet-centric activities, from lively demonstrations to thrilling lure coursing competitions. Your dog can come along and experience the vendors and activities for themselves! Holiday Barn will be offering a training demonstration, so make sure you keep an eye out and see how we can help your pup be on their best behavior. With an extensive lineup of vendors, a silent auction, and activities for all ages – and breeds! –  it’s a day filled with furry fun for the whole family.

Don’t wait, ​​adult tickets are $8 online and increase to $10 on event day!

3. Dog Jog – March 23

Strap on your running shoes and leash up your furry friend for the 22nd Annual Dog Jog, 5K and Block Party, presented by Holiday Barn Pet Resorts and benefiting the Richmond SPCA! 

You can join us in person, or on your own if you choose the “run anywhere” option, and expect a day packed with fun pet-friendly activities for the whole family! This event kicks off at 10 a.m. with a chip-timed 5K (just for the two-legged attendees), followed by the Little Paws Fun Run for kids 4- 10 10 at 11 a.m. Then leash up your fur-ever friend for the leisurely 1-mile Dog Jog at 11:30 a.m. before our free Block Party gets started at noon!

Browse the marketplace, grab lunch and a beverage, enjoy live music, and more at this amazing kid- and dog-friendly event, while knowing every step you take supports homeless animals and vital pet programs!

4. Richmond Animal League’s Woofstock – April 27

Let the good times roll at Woofstock, the ultimate celebration of rescue and adoption hosted by the Richmond Animal League! April 27, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, come enjoy live music filling the air and a bustling marketplace packed full with must-haves! This event brings furry friends and their humans together to spread love and compassion. Bring your whole pack and join the festivities at Westchester Commons for a day of tail-wagging fun!

5. FETCH a Cure Supper Club – Each Month

Indulge in delicious meals for a pawsitive cause at FETCH a Cure’s Supper Club events. Partnering with local eateries, these monthly gatherings offer an opportunity to dine out while supporting FETCH’s life-saving programs. With each bite, you’re making a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of pets in Richmond.

6. FETCH Fest Pet Wellness Festival – May 7th 

Get out in the best of the spring season with a celebration of pet health and happiness at FETCH Fest, for which we are a sponsor! Formerly known as Mutt Strut, this family-friendly event features live music, interactive stations, and tasty treats for pets and humans alike. Join us in raising awareness for pet cancer and promoting overall wellness for our beloved pets. 

7. Dominion Riverrock – May 17-19 

Gear up for an outdoor adventure like no other at Dominion Riverrock. You can find Holiday Barn at this exhilarating event again this year as a vendor! We invite you and your four-legged best friend to explore Richmond’s natural beauty through activities ranging from trail running to paddleboarding, and of course the rock climbing main event. With the James River as our backdrop, embrace the spirit of exploration and discovery with your canine companion by your side.
